Problems, such as headache, dizziness, .back pain, .etc. occur because of lack of physical exercise, predominantly due to modern, technical innovations, which enable people to lead a sedentary life without any physical activity. Most office-goers sit for hours in the office without doing anything physically, while on the other hand, womenfolk depend on appliances, such as grinders, washing machines, etc. for household chores. All these result in manifestation of pain in various forms. The back is an engineering marvel, capable of extreme flexibility, wherein the weight-bearing points of the body are in continuous motion, altering angles of postures constantly. But, wrong practices, like sudden jerks, lifting of heavy objects, sudden bending, twisting, etc. can also cause back pain. We should ensure that during any activity, lifting and twisting are done one at a time. When in a hurry, one usually tries to do both together and this leads to pain. Fortunately, most of the time, neck and low back pains disappear sooner or later and do not become major problems.
Back pain can be divided into three large types. They are:
1. Anxial Pain:
Also known as mechanical back pain, it can be either a dull or a sharp ache. It can be constant or irregular. It can get worse by different physical activities and the situation can get better by changing positions or by rest.
2. Referred Pain:
People suffering from this type of pain complain of having a dull pain that switches places. The pain varies in severity and comes and goes. It begins in the low back area and spreads to the groin, buttock, and upper thighs. Treatment is aimed at correcting abnormalities in small joints of the spine, muscles, and ligaments.
3. Radicular Pain:
This type of back pain is a deep and usually constant pain that is accompanied by numbness, or tingling or muscle weakness. It follows the nerve down the leg. A few of the patients with radicular pain would require surgery. For the rest of the patients, the treatment includes multiple therapies designed to reduce inflammation, strengthening supporting structures, improving the health of the involved nerve, attaining normal motion, and balancing your posture.
